M12.9 Climate Change
Prior to this module I did not understand much about climate change. The comparison made in one of the videos was that the amount of heat emitted by humans is 400,000 Hiroshima bombs being detonated every day. Emissions will continue to exacerbate climate changes. Sea levels will rise, hurricanes, droughts and heat waves will occur more frequently. The biggest goal is to lower emission levels, but the question is how. A global climate change initiative needs to occur, and everyone needs to participate. As a public health professional, education is the first step towards change. I personally needed to read up a lot more on climate change, how it happens and how to prevent it as an individual. Education should also be provided to everyone. Renewable energy should be used when possible, and energy saving techniques such as sealing drafts and using energy efficient appliances should be considered.
If I were visiting with a long-lost relative, I would describe climate change as a big monster who is attacking our planet. It continues growing by the food we feed it - which is heat supplied by energy. It continues heating the earth and causing droughts, hurricanes and other bad natural disasters. The only way to stop it is to save energy in any way possible.
