M7.8 Topic of Interest
A topic that I am interested in pursuing for my literature review is considering the use of fragrance in personal care products. Almost all personal care products (ie. lotion, shampoo, toothpastes) contain some form of fragrance. Many of these can cause skin sensitivities, even for the most gentles products. I'm interested in finding out just how harmful fragrances are to the human body, and if there are other major problems other than causing some minor irritations. The most significant organization concerning itself with fragrance is the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) based in Geneva, Switzerland. The IFRA limits usage of certain ingredients based on findings from the Research Institute of Fragrance. The Research Institute of Fragrance is another international organization that gathers information regarding the safety of specific chemicals and the usage of multiple ones at once.

Sabrina, this a great topic - absolutely relevant. When you take the time to list all of the personal care items we use (particularly) females, and then discover that many of the products may have detrimental effects, it is concerning to think what the long term problems may be. Excited to learn more about your topic.
