M7.7 Governmental Agency Role
Two large federal agencies are the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Chemical Safety Board. HHS functions primarily to aid and support medicine, public health and social service sectors. One of the agency's main goals is to support United States sustainability. By maintaining, restoring and protecting natural systems, it can help to continue the cyclical nature of earth's natural resources. Projects funded by the agency include greenhouse gas reduction, identifying clean and renewable energy sources and water use efficiency and management.
The United States Chemical Safety Board investigates industrial chemical accidents. While it does not regulate chemical usage in consumer products, it does help identify root causes in safety management systems caused by chemical usages. The agency makes recommendations to plants and regulatory agencies on changes that may help improve safety to employees and local communities. The CSB can help make recommendations also for policy change to improve future chemical processes.
