M8.5 Ideal Chemical Policy
A federal chemical policy should be created and enforced that requires comprehensive safety data be clearly stated for all chemicals. If a chemical is to be placed on the market for the United States, safety to people, animals and the environment should be considered. Proper analysis of all the potential hazards of the chemical needs to be transparent to FDA regulators and all consumers. If the company is unwilling to do the research and provide the data, then the chemical should not be allowed to be released onto the market. The emphasis on early research and development can help the formative evaluation process and force companies to seek new and safer chemicals. Requiring proof of safe usage can help the general public to understand what they are being exposed to, and allow community members to become more educated.
