M2.3 Household Products
My all time favorite product to use to clean my apartment is Clorox wipes. As an ICU nurse, I come back home with germs all over my clothes, shoes, phone and body. I often use the wipes after coming home to wipe down high touch surfaces and prevent any additional spread of germs - which is why I appreciate the antibacterial function of killing major bacteria such as Staph, MRSA and Strep. According to the Household Products Database, this product received a 1 on the health rating indicating minimal risk on the HMIS rating scale. The Clorox wipes are considered not a hazard according to the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.
I was surprised to find out that my air fresheners, Glade plug-in, received a 2 on the HMIS rating scale for the health rating risk. It does not say anything specific as to why it received the rating, and does not add any information for the carcinogenicity or chronic health effects.
Knowing the level of health risk allows me to feel a bit more informed, but I feel that the Household Products Database could be more complete in explaining the reasoning behind the rating. That being said, it does not change my choice in household products. It would be great if everyone could look up the health risks on the website, but it hopefully would also include the direct health risks from the product.

I have to agree with you with regards to the health rating. Unless you are highly motivated to seek out the information, this tool leaves something to be desired. I imagine that unless you have a prior knowledge, these warming would not necessarily hold much weight because the cause and effect of using the product is somewhat vague.
